About

S8

S8 is home for DIY digital servers as well as analog projects! We pragmatically embrace the idea of self sufficiency in both the digital as well as the analog world.

We first started self-hosting servers for radio, SMTP, matrix.org and web page at our old physical space: Super Århus (now closed) . Our name very much pays homage to the lovely people and events we had there.

S8 is now a platform that allows artists, DJs, collectives, and cultural spaces to publish music, stream events, and share files (such as Modular synth design, pure data patches, scoop speaker blue prints, or micro-house designs) — without relying on centralized services such as Bandcamp, Spotify, Soundcloud and Google Docs, while still striving to match or exceed features in parity by standing on the shoulders of open source software project giants such as Syncthing, matrix.org, Crytpad, Faircamp, icecast, forgejo and of course *BSD/Linux. We are currently in the process setting up 7b parameter model LLM and will offer some kind of API, and will also soon experiment with diffusion model for TTS/STT audio generation (coming soon).

The platform can be completely self-hosted and federated. That means people can run their own S8 instance, set their own rules, and still stay connected across the fediverse — such as Mastodon, Pixelfed and Matrix.org.

S8 supports everything from EPs, DJ mixes, to live radio, podcasts and event promotion. Artists and collectives can create pages, upload content, stream live, and control how their work is shared — including licensing.

We are still in the process getting hardware and designing the front-end and hardening back-end with some artists and musicians and developer friends in Århus, Berlin area. Feel free to contact us with any input or would like to contribute or collaborat. And of course we gonna have a launch party when it is ready for public!
